I remember turning 17 myself and with my sister having turned 17 three weeks ago, I realised I experienced turning 17 and 18 as quite a change. Everything up to 17 was the same blurry stuff for me… until 17.

Unless you’re adding in the to be funny… because that would make sense. Ok, I need to stop thinking. Too many hours awake and too few spent sleeping.

Mathias, you are just about the most adorable thing this side of the Caspian Sea (at least I hope you are this side of the Caspian Sea; my geography sucks more than my originality), can I adopt you? It would be handy as hell to have a cool, HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, geek like you around, though I’m sure you’d tire of my stupid n00b questions quickly. I have good references… about a dozen kids your age (same gender) who live at my flat more than their own, force my grocery bill into rivaling the national debt, keep me in line with good music, use my 13 computers, and continuously give me crap. None of them know spit about geekage, however.
It seriously humbles me when I think that I’ve been doing this Internet Thang since you were five years old and you know soooooooooo much more than I do. That’s what happens when you get OLD (I hate these birthdays, as you have already noted) and you have to spend more time paying the rent than you get to spend learning php et. all. I was a late bloomer when I first sat down at my first computer in ‘93, but tweaking these machines to do my bidding has been my passion ever since.
So what’d you think? Ready to move to the US? I have two beautiful teenage daughters, if that’s any incentive. ;)
Besides, any kid who listens to BOTH Guns n Roses and “Jolene” has got to be cool.
