Math Jazz — Mathias Bynens’s shizzle, y’all

Note: This site might seem inactive… That’s because it is. Don’t worry though, I’m still coding webpages and stuff! If you’re interested, I suggest you get a translator and head over to Qiwi; or you could just check the latest site we’ve been working on: Apotheek Goethals – Debrabandere. Enjoy!

Downwards Scrolling

Why did nobody ever tell me you can scroll down by pressing the Space bar in about every browser — even in IE?! Damn! Now I feel like I have been missing something.

This feature is perfect for poor 16-year-old students with an old computer with dito no-scroll-wheel–mouse in their room… Scrollbars suck, but space bars rule — Fitts’s law.

It also works great in Thunderbird. The space bar will scroll down the email and when it reaches the end it will go to the next email in the list, very helpful. :)

    Ow Mathibus!
I have to confess… I didn’t know it either! This is so cool! I had a scrolling mouse, but now I can discover the new function of my space bar! Very challenging!

Woah. I didn’t realise that either. Still, my favourite method is to middle click on your scroll wheel, and just scroll by moving the mouse — except you don’t have a scroll wheel! I feel for you ;)

Wow, I’m out of the loop as well! I have used the scrolling mouse and the up/down arrow but I never knew the space bar did it. And for Thunderbird also, that’s great! My life has changed in such significant ways.

    And don’t forget… Shift + Space scrolls backwards…

I hate this feature. I always hit the space bar by accident and think WTF FFS!!!, what a stupid feature. That’s me at least :P No doubt it’s great in the scenario you said above.

You’re right Armin, Shift always reverses the direction of keyboard shortcuts.

And flump: actually, I discovered this by accident, when Djennick put a book on the space bar of the school computer I was “working” on. I love it.

Hello. I have no idea how I found your site but I am very thankful that I did! I didn’t know that you can use the space bar for that! I feel like I have been missing out! Wow! Thank you so much!

I knew that! I knew that! And already a very, very long time! I had never dare to think that I knew something more about computer-stuff than you!

I have known that forever but it doesn’t beat a scroll mouse. Ctrl + Home and Ctrl + End are good too.

I’ve done that by accident a couple of times, not really thinking about its usefulness. That’s quite nice. I’ll definitely remember that one!

Also, Shift + Space is the main reason that I’ll use it. Otherwise it’d just be too annoying.

Oh my. Today, I discovered the function of Shift + Enter. (It’s like Ctrl + Enter, but different.) I decided to have a look at the Firefox keyboard shortcuts, and guess what I found?

Pressing F7 turns Caret Browsing on or off.

    Caret Browsing?!

Maybe I should RTFM more — it seems to be causing me to discover new functionalities of the software I use the most.

Wow. This page was in the first page of Google results when I searched for Thunderbird keyboard scroll shortcut.

I didn’t know that Space was a scroll shortcut. Thank you!
