Nu-Metal is Dead
- How to form your own nu-metal band.
- How to start your own nu-metal band.
- Why nu-metal is a dumbed down version of heavy metal.
- Why nu-metal sucks.
- Why Dumbed Down sucks.
These things are just too funny to not post them. I don’t dislike nu-metal, even though I agree with a lot of the critic written on the sites stated above.

Interesting. Unfortunately I don’t think Nu-metal is dead…if it is then I’m really, really behind the times. Hehe. I’m just now hopping onto the Linkin Park bandwagon. They aren’t the greatest musicians, but they’re catchy.
Of course, I say bluegrass musicians can never be outplayed.
hur hur. most amusing. each to his own, but i think nu-metal is crap.
LMAO :spin:
I think that the term nu-metal is overused, everyone has different opinions, and nobody will ever have a clear definition or boundary for it. The term nu-metal is not in my vocabulary. So-called nu-metal in my opinion is hard rock. When I think of metal, I think Iron Maiden, Testament, Immortal, In Flames, Slayer, Anthrax, Children Of Bodom, and Judas Priest, not Static X, Slipknot, or System Of A Down. They are not metal. They are hard rock. That’s all.
I sure hope it’s dead, it sucks! They are not hard rock! They are a mix of loud shouted rap, and guitars distorted beyond the point of making single notes out. Hard rock has singing. The guitarists in hard rock are great and can actually play, and don’t need to use that much distortion. And no nu-metal can do any things different (i.e. bring out a 12 string, play an acoustic album, have a song consisting only of a guitar solo).
If shitty ass bands like The Darkness and Velvet Rev can still sell records, then no music scene is dead. People have nu metal all fucked up and people don’t even know a real nu metal band.. I’ll try to explain this… Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town, Skindred, Linkin Park, Hoobastank, Trapt are not nu metal… People love making classifactions and I find it fucking stupid. But if that’s what people want then here I go… Here’s 5 real nu metal bands… Deftones, Ill Nino, Slipknot, 40 Below Summer, and Sevendust… Limp and Linking Park are *rap metal* — huge difference. Breaking beng trust company hoobastank flaw (alt/metal)… See a difference??? As an example… Tell me the difference from all the scene kids and they gay ass views on music… Emo post hardcore hardcore indie scremo chaoscore dancecore, core this and core that?? What the fuck? lol can’t tell the difference… I love the music… Not nessecarily the image… There’s nothing original about looking just like 1,000,000 other scene kids or wearing girl pants panting your hair black and putting on eyeliner and kicking at the air like a karate movie gone bad. I think the problem is that people are just stuck on some gay ass trend and are afraid to admit that they still do or use to like nu metal. Slipknot is still headling huge ass tours as so Linkin Park and Korn. Selling out arenas and amphitheaters. Cough if it’s stil making money and people love it… It’s not cough dead…
“there’s a HUGE DIFFERENCE between rap metal and nu-metal”
and what would that be? a fat white boy on turntables? yeah huge difference. actually there’s more similarities than you probably care to believe, like its all corporate garbage marketed to overweight kids iwith diabeties in the midwest like you. if you really think the measure of a band’s talent is how many outdoor arenas they sell out then you probably believe that carpet bombing villages in iraq is also cool.
so, i think you’re the ‘gay ass’ moron. next time you shit out of your mouth make sure its in the food court at the mall where it belongs. thank you for enlightening the world as to the intricasies of the different metal categories and your bus plaza philosphy. eat a dick.
In my opinion, nu-metal has been created and continues to be defined byt Korn’s music, specifically, their first albums until Issues, and perhaps, including “take a look in the mirror”. In my opinion nu-metal always was classified by dissonant song structure, loud slap-bass, dirty sounding guitars, chaotic lyrics that sound like they came from a seriously disturbed invdividual, and groove-based drum beats. Nu-metal never ever had any affiliation to rap or rap-rock. As far as I’m concerned, the only real nu-metal bands that I’m aware of were Korn and Coal Chamber. Linkin park, Papa Roach and such were rap-rock, Slipknot was thrash.
Also in my opinion, I consider nu-metal (as defined above) to be a very energy-communicating and aggressive genre, much like real metal. However unlike real metal, Nu-metal uses groove-based drum beats and chaotic song structures to communicate this energy/aggressiveness, compared the the more obvious/straightforward form that metal uses which is: distortion and speed. I consider that making a good nu-metal song requires more than just guitar skills, which of course demands more talent. Anybody can compose a fast, hard song. It’s easy, turn up your amp, turn on your distortion pedals and play so fast your fingers bleed. It’s a completely different story to harness chaos, and turn it into a song, especially into a song that people can mosh to. Rythm is order, thus it’s the complete opposite of chaos. The fact that Korn was able to quite simply harness and use this chaos to create their unique music takes quite a bit of talent and dedication for the music, and that’s more than can be said for a lot of bands out there.
of course other differences between supposed nu-metal bands and the ones who actually define the genre(Korn, Coal chamber) are obvious and should not need to actually be stated. The difference in the composition of songs, the feel of the songs, the lyrics, and so on is immense between say Korn and Bizkit.
Nu-metal became a corporate tool to suck money out of teens and pre-teens pockets when the other bands started popping up, and when it became affiliated with rap-rock (if anyone can tell me how nu-metal and rap-rock is affiliated, i’d be thankful). As far as I’m concerned there are no rap or hip-hop influences in either Korn’s or Coal Chamber’s music. I do not hear drum machines, rapping, or “ghetto talk” in any of these bands’ songs. In fact, I dont’ think nu-metal ever got turned into a corporate tool. It was rap-rock that became the over-played genre in the late 90s. Korn and Coal Chamber were simply making their music, but freddy and his limp bizkit was the one who was over-played on tv and radio, if I recall correctly.
I believe that nu-metal is dead at the moment, since Korn lost a guitarist and now are composing completely different genres of music, and Coal Chamber fell apart and the attempt of Devildriver to be its reincarnation failed horribly. Rap-rock seems to have also died since Papa Roach are now almost pure rock, Bizkit is dead and gone, Linkin Park is all over the place, and so on. I do hope that nu-metal will rise again. I believe that it is a very effective genre at communicating intelligent and dangerous ideas, and creating energy. Like rap, Nu-metal has enormous potential to cause a lot of positive change in society, granted if the artists are inteligent and wish to promote inteligence through their music. I know that’s what my plan is. Perhaps one day, thanks to genres with such potential to cause social change such as nu-metal, we’ll live in a society that promotes inteligence, rather than stupidity.
I agree with every word u wrote Tattz! Considering that Linkin Park’s new cd had almost no rapping, the Korn’s cd was also very diffrent then even See You On The Other Side. Nu Metal is pretty dead right now. Rap-Rock wouldn’t even come back because Limp Bizkit fucked it up and its considered cliche now. Nu Metal will be back one day! Perhaps not from Korn or even POD, but it will be back.
Nu metal bands (few): Korn, the Deftones, Slipknot, Ill Nino, Coal Chamber, Sevendust, Linkin Park, and Disturbed.
